Book Reviews- Feb 22

Have you ever read a New York Times or real-world book review? Students will be posting their Newbery/YRCA book reviews on this blog and websites on Feb. 22nd!

Students, remember the "secrets to a great book review"- 
Start with a hook
Craft a strong thesis
Include three-five paragraphs
Use solid evidence in the form of quotes to support your ideas.

I can't wait to read them!

Term 2 Project Deadlines: Jan-Feb


Students receive a lot of class time to research and revise their work on the following projects. In order for your to stay organized, here are the deadlines.
 Reminder:  late work loses 10% a day and that some assignments cannot made up.

Comic Strip: January 29- DONE

Math Test (Geometry up to page 126): Feb. 1- DONE

Newbery Creative project times: Feb. 1, Feb. 17
* note that creative projects are due Feb. 22.*

Genius Hour Reflections (filmed on IPads in class): Feb. 3- DONE

Next Newbery/YRCA Lit circle roles meeting #2:  Feb. 10

Chemistry Test: Feb. 11

Newbery Creative Project: Feb. 22

Duotang with all final copies of Newbery/YRCA work (creative project, lit circles roles, and book review): Feb. 22nd

Newbery/YRCA Book Reviews: Feb. 24th

Historica/Heritage Fair: topics chosen already. Students will begin to receive more information in February.

"I am From" poems- the good copy is due Friday, October 30th

Please polish your "Where I'm From" poems by Friday, October 30th. They are going on display outside our classroom next week. Your drafts were excellent so show me your best polished work with the good copy. Submit your poem typed or in pen on white paper.

Your assignment will be assessed using the BC Performance Standards:
Writing Poems 7 . Be sure to double check the criteria on your copy!

Homework

- Hatchet connector sheets and Reading Logs are both due tomorrow.
- Last call for Genius Hour conferences- this Friday

Europe's Refugee Crisis: Mapping Homework due tomorrow!

Please finish your map of Europe. Pay close attention to the instructions and make sure that all of the places properly labelled and coloured in. This assignment is due on Wednesday, October 14th. Please reread the homework policy too.

Homework: Math Quiz Tomorrow!

Review your JUMP Math Package for tomorrow's quiz. Review the concepts for an hour maximum. Here's our web on the value of math in "real life".
