Meet the Teachers

We are very excited to begin this school year with our new students! We look forward to a year of creativity, inquiry, adventure, and fun! Our class will have room for your passions- through our genius hour ( more about this on the blog later)- and ours too: creative writing and book clubs, hands-on science, sports, social justice, and leadership to name a few. We are excited to share these interests with your children and have divided up the curriculum according to our strengths.

BC has redesigned all k-12 curricula over the last couple of years. Here is a link for you information:

We will also be taking learning beyond the classroom at Evans Lake Camp, the Vancouver Art Gallery, and around the city on our Amazing Race to name a few.

This is my 6th year at Cavell and I love teaching grades 6 and 7. I began teaching as a high school French Immersion and English teacher. Once I saw the power of teaching students to write from their own experiences and to write well, I was hooked. I returned to UBC and did a Masters in teaching creative writing to kids. Being able to express yourself and make your voice part of the curriculum is essential. More recently, I have been a literacy mentor for the VSB, and an elementary teacher in grade 6/7, core French, and Gifted Education. In my spare time,  I coach a lot of basketball for my kids (15, 11 and 11) and I help teachers teach poetry through an initiative called Poetry In Voice. In my house, we love basketball, soccer, and going on adventures to discover new places.

Teaching days: Mon/Wed and  Resource Support

I love my job. Twenty plus years of teaching and I still love the excitement and nervousness that September brings and of course all those new pencils and books. I especially look forward to meeting new students and parents and reacquainting myself with former ones. But it is really the unknown of how the year of learning together and growth of students will unfold that is so intriguing.
During my career I have taught various grades from two to seven for the VSB as well as in the UK. I have specialized training in English language instruction, literacy and sciences. I believe in supporting students to be independent learners who can thrive in the classroom and out in the world.
Outside of school, I love travel. I have had the opportunity to live abroad twice – London, England and New York City. Besides spending time with my husband and two daughters, I can usually be found reading, involved in various sports activities or viewing them and cooking.
I am thrilled to be partnering with Liisa House, as I respect the learning environment she provides for her students.
Together we hope to provide a year of adventures, learning, collaboration, inquiry, connections, laughter and memories.
