Amazing Race, June 15th: Call for Volunteers!

Parents,  have you ever wanted to go on the Amazing Race? If so, here is your chance!

We are looking for 6 keen parents to participate in the Amazing Race as chaperones. Run, walk, bus, eat, and ferry (?) your way around Vancouver with your son or daughter and their teammates. It's fun (and it's a little crazy).

We are also looking for station/challenge judges- this is a half day commitment and requires no running.

If you are interested in running the race or judging challenges, please email Ms. House.

Thank you!

We are making a class recipe book!

Please remember to bring your recipes from our MasterChef competition to class tomorrow- we will be working on our commemorative class cookbook.

MasterChef Winners Revealed

Congratulations to all students who cooked their hearts out yesterday. It was a very tough decision as the taste, creativity and presentation far exceeded the judges' expectations.
And the winners are:

1st Runner-Up: Team Beans
First ever Cavell MasterChef Champions: Team Corn!

Prizes will be awarded next week.

MasterChef Recap

Inspired by the kids that cook on tv? Move over MasterChef, Cavell chefs rose to the occasion and created stunning plates in our cooking competition today. Well done all! Here are just some photos of what was created in our school kitchen today.
Thank you Mrs. Foster, Ms. Fung, Joseph, David, Nanako, Lynn, Vanessa, and Andrea for volunteering as supervisors and judges today- we couldn't have done it without you!

Math Test This Tuesday, May 16th

We will have a math test on data and probability this Tuesday.

We have reviewed in class and students should continue to review the following terms and concepts at home with their JUMP workbooks. All students already made cue cards for mean, median, mode and range. This is an effective way of reviewing the concepts: create flashcards with the term on one side and the definition and an example on the other.

Parents, you can help quiz them too!

Grade 6
Stem and Leaf Plots: how to create them from a set of numbers
Organizing data using:
- Venn diagrams
- scatter plots
- bar graphs
- line graphs
Identifying mean, median, mode, range and distinguishing between these terms
The difference between continuous and  discrete data and when each is used

Grade 7
All of the above for Grade 6 and the following:
Stem and Leaf plots: true and false statements about this concept
Determining the outlier in a number set
Choosing the best way to represent data (line, bar, scatter plot, stem and leaf, etc.)
