Chemistry Test Thursday, February 11

There will be a Chemistry Test on February 11th. Students are recommended to focus their studies on the following areas:

- chemical vs. physical change
- elements
- compounds
- atoms (protons, neutrons and electrons)
- metals, nonmetals and metalloids
- scientific method

*Students do not need to memorize the periodic table

Term 2 Project Deadlines: Jan-Feb


Students receive a lot of class time to research and revise their work on the following projects. In order for your to stay organized, here are the deadlines.
 Reminder:  late work loses 10% a day and that some assignments cannot made up.

Comic Strip: January 29- DONE

Math Test (Geometry up to page 126): Feb. 1- DONE

Newbery Creative project times: Feb. 1, Feb. 17
* note that creative projects are due Feb. 22.*

Genius Hour Reflections (filmed on IPads in class): Feb. 3- DONE

Next Newbery/YRCA Lit circle roles meeting #2:  Feb. 10

Chemistry Test: Feb. 11

Duotang with all final copies of Newbery/YRCA work (creative project, lit circles roles, and book review): Feb. 22nd

Newbery/YRCA Book Reviews: Feb. 24th

Historica/Heritage Fair: topics chosen already. Students will begin to receive more information in February.

Geometry Test on Monday Feb. 1

There will be a Geometry test on pages 97-126 on Monday, Feb. 1. Students should focus their studies on:

Geometry vocabulary
Parallel and perpendicular lines
Angle bisectors
Linear pairs
Measuring, drawing and labeling triangles
Measuring, drawing and labeling angles
Lines of Symmetry

Winter Comic due Friday January 29, 2016

The winter themed comics that the students have been working on are due this Friday, Jan. 29th.

Newbery Novel Study- first roles due Monday!

Be sure to have completed your book club role- illustrator, literary luminary, vocabulary enriched or connector- for Monday morning's group meeting. Consult your criteria and do your best work!

Tomorrow we are walking up to Eric Hamber Secondary to watch the Sr. Girls and Sr. Boys Basketball teams.

Newbery and Young Readers Choice Awards Individual Novel Project

This term, students are choosing their own books to read for a novel study. Everyone can choose a Newbery Award Winner or a YRCA book. Both of these awards represent the best in young adult fiction. All students will be meeting with genre groups to discuss novel elements and then will work on an individual creative project.

Please find and bring a copy of your book to class on Wednesday.

Today we were greeted by a visitor named Lucy. She is Ms. Park's 2 month old Golden / Labrador Retriever. Our class were great hosts and really enjoyed the visit.
